Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The former head of state was convicted of planning a government overthrow in September and handed more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.
